Why are so many people getting LEED Certified?

LEED is an internationally recognized green building rating system used to designate the level of environmental efficiency of a building. It was developed by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to provide owners a framework for implementing eco-friendly construction and maintenance practices but has gained wide spread popularity for slashing operational costs along with the environmental footprint of a building.

LEED has created several rating systems to cover all types of buildings and offers specialized certification for each area depending on profession. Currently, the most popular professions seeking LEED certification are architects, real estate brokers, facility managers, engineers, interior designers, construction managers and landscape designers. However, as the value of the certification continues to increase, more companies are looking for LEED certification among their employees to consult the company with energy efficient practices.
